Tearing a strip off French wines?

snc175281.jpg Here’s an interesting one, but we are cheating again..we’ve not yet found this clever feature on a French wine label. This new world wine label features a tear off strip so that, if you enjoy the wine and want to remember it for future, you can tear off and keep its identity tag as an aide-memoire. Simple innovation - To be found on a bottle of French wine anytime soon?… please let us know!

Wine without the intimidation

OK, so this is not strickly speaking French wine marketing-related altho’ there’s a French brand in the range.. Seattle, US-based, Click Wine Group, aim to take “the intimidation out of wine with a selection of wines with easy to pronounce names and appealing, consumer friendly packaging”. As easy as that really… Check out the range on : http://www.clickwinegroup.com/cwg/wine_portfolio.php.

We vote for ‘Mad Dogs & Englishman’….

Crittercal Success Factor?

We’re wondering how many French wine producers picked up on the ‘critters’ wine label design thing in the U.S. and to a certain extent other anglo markets ?

The trend took hold a few years back and shows no sign of abating. Research carried out in the U.S. indicated that Americans were twice as likely to buy a new wine if the label featured ‘a critter’ (an animal) on the label. We imagine it makes the wine seem less stuffy and more approachable.

Apart from taking a marketing-led approach to producing their wines, no points for guessing what Fat Bastard, Funny Bunny, Chamarré and Arrogant Frog have all got in common?

Funny Bunny

Here’s an innovative packaging move and one which is environmentally friendly. We read that wine in tetra pak is already well accepted in Canada and Scandinavia. What’s more - the wine is drinkable too. We like the querky communication and the marketing buzz Boisset (America) are trying to create. Apparently French Rabbit was awarded a 2006 SIAL d’Or as the best new alcoholic product in the world. Bit much!! but brave marketing. http://www.frenchrabbit.fr/vins.php

Boxing Clever

It’s high time there was more innovation in French bag-in-box designs. We’d never seen any design other than predictable-traditional, until recently we picked up on the funky design of these wine boxes from the Cercle des Vignerons de Provence (http://www.cercle-provence.fr/marques/F_Red-Pink_White-Box.htm).

Hopefully the next great boxed wine breakthrough will be a decent French red offering! If anyone’s come across one on the French market, please let us know.
